Yes and it is. That was what I was alluding to when I mentioned that I couldn't get the color right. I know how to fiddle with all the settings to make my coppers and silvers come out pretty good, but I just don't have enough gold coins to get much practice and consequently the color doesn't come out very accurately.

This Denaro comes from the Italian City of Manfredonia and was minted in the date range of 1263 to 1266 AD. The obv legend is MANYFRID M and the rev inscription is SICILIE. You can see that the edge has been so severely trimmed that the coin is no long round. I have attributed it as BIAGGI 1111.

I have a yarmak from the year before. At least I'm told it's from the year before, but the coin only says (in unreadable Persian) it is the 'year of the black cow'. Or maybe it doesn't. Stephen Album dates it AH662-665.

Qrim. Silver, 23mm, 2.2g. Padishah/of Islam Nasir/al-duniya wa al-din (defender of world and religion). Tamga; Qrim mint; around: Blessed be this year of the black cow (Zeno 82173 (this coin); Sagdeeva 6; Album 2019G).

This is another Mongol coin, and another overstrike. But it's from Berke Khan's cousin and enemy - Hulagu of the Ilkhanate (Persian Mongols). The children of Genghis Khan divided the vast empire into semi-independent khanates overseen by a Supreme Khan. When Supreme Khan Möngke died with no successor in 1259, civil war ensued.

Hulagu Khan Fals, 1260-1261, overstruck on a Badr al-Din Lu'lu' Fals, 1258-1259

Sinjar (Iraq), the Ilkhanate. Bronze, 24mm, 6.9g. Shahada in three lines. 8-point star, 'the Ilkhan Hulagu, may Allah increase his greatness' (Zeno 35480, this coin; Album 2125.3). Overstruck on a Fals of Badr al-Din Lu'lu' (Album 1876).

Badr al-Din Lu'lu' (ruler of Mosul, Iraq) had earlier surrendered to Hulagu Khan, sparing his city from destruction. He recognised Möngke as Supreme Khan on the under-coin above. Hulagu overstruck it after their deaths in 1259 and his devastating destruction of Baghdad, where he killed up to 2 million people in less than two weeks. He destroyed Baghdad's vast, invaluable libraries and threw so many books into the Tigris the river ran black. It was the end of the Islamic Golden Age. Hulagu was a Buddhist and his slaughter of Muslims enraged Muslim-convert Berke, resulting in war and the division of the Empire.

To continue the topic of Mongol coins, I have this Dirham - temp. Qaidu Khan (Bukhara mint) which belongs to Khanate of Chagatai. It may be minted between 1264 and 1303

Here is my last coin for this decade. This Bracteate Pfennig was minted in the German City State of Brunswick-Luenenberg. It was minted between 1267 and 1277 AD and features a lion jumping over a crescent moon. Maybe it is looking for a cow? It is attributed as Welter 237b.
