Nice denier, @Spence! Here is another one, same king, different mint: West Francia, 888-897, 1 denier. King Odo (Eudes), mint Blois. Silver, 1.77 g, 20 mm. Roberts 1652. Obverse: MISERICORDIA D[E]I, in the center monogram for ODDO REX. Reverse: BLESIANIS CASTRO (Castle Blois). The 'L' and 'O' have interesting shapes here.

That Denier is in super condition @era. Hose monograms are always fun. Also, I haven't seen a L letterform like that previously, so thx for pointing it out!
Looking forward to your renewed posting @tdz. We will get there.

Not seeing much more movement after these Deniers. Let's move on to the decade of the 870s starting tomorrow morning.

It's been a while but I have one for the 870s. It's a nice coin but al-Mu'tamid wasn't much of a ruler, since his brother al-Muwaffaq had all the power. al-Mu'tamid 'ala 'llah Dirham, 876-877
 Madinat al-Salam (Baghdad), Abbasid Caliphate. Silver, 2.93g. al-Mu'tamid, citing his brother al-Muwaffaq, AH263 (A 240.5).

Very nice one @john and glad to have this contribution to our thread. My only coin for this decade is a Dirham on a small flan from Eastern Khorasan (Banjihir). The AH date is partial, with only 26 visible and a missing third digit. That would place the timing in the range of roughly 874 to 884 AD. It was issued by Abu Da'ud Muhammad b. Ahmad and I have attributed it as Album 1433.

Here is a relatively recent pickup for me: a Fals from the Samanid Dynasty that was issued by Nasr I b Ahmad. It was minted in Al Shash (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and is dated AH 254, which roughly corresponds to 868 AD.

Almost missed this little coin, which represented the 9th century in my One From Each Century set attempt... Byzantine Empire, civic issue of Cherson Michael III and Basil I, ca. 866-867 AD Sear Byzantine 1699, Esty Cherson E7 Reverse: Πo X ( Polis Cherson, i.e. City of Cherson) Obverse: MB ( Michael and Basil) Now that I think of it I also have a later issue from Basil I, ca. 867-886 (Esty Cherson E16). Will try to post it in a few days, I guess... though the pics (and the condition) are even worse than this coin!

Another Carolingian from me. West Francia, 864-875, 1 denier. King Charles "The Bald", mint Court-Sessin or Courgeon. Silver, 1.59 g, 20 mm. Roberts 1355. Obverse: GRATIA D-I REX, in the center monogram for KaROLuS. Reverse: HCVRTISASONIEN (Curtis Sasoniensis). Note shapes of 'O' and the two 'N's. The 'H' in the HC ligature was probably aspirated and the spelling just following that of HLVDOVICVS used on Charles's father Louis's coins for many years.
