I think most of what you are seeing is deterioration and lighting issues, I don't see anything that would lead me to believe this is a doubled die. The crack down the forhead and bridge of the nose is common on the shield cent, it's a weak spot in the die. When you have a doubled die on the reverse of a shield, you will see extreme thinness in EPU, this does not show that. You need to look at several listed doubled dies so you know what to look for.

The biggest issue is Machine Doubling. Note it also shows strong on the reverse with the Machine Doubling on the raised devices on one side of the devices, while the incuse EPU has the MD on the opposite side of the devices. (This is normal, as the devices are opposite each other on the raised/incuse devices and the MD is just opposite as well)

It is my understanding that when the devices are thinned, it is MD. I defer to the experts explanations.

The over polished dies will make the devices look even smaller than normal size. On Machine Doubling the on edge is affected. On the over polished die thinning, is the bottom the devices (widest part) is removed by the polishing, then the thinner and shorter device will appear. ))_nwplaza_Stanster_AAA.jpg) On the reverse on your coin the MD is on the top area of the devices. The bounce after the strike affected a higher area on the devices. Note on your image on 'ONE'.
