Here is another Irish £20 note. 1947 is rare in any grade. We have to accept what we can get in them.

Nice. Still intact, that's how we want our workhorses.

Here you are, some tired old Kiwi notes

Post-Your-Workhorse-Notes.

Well used $1 and $2 notes from the late 80s, these got so bad after a few months, they were known to spread disease, put out of their misery in 1991 with coins.

Post-Your-Workhorse-Notes.

The old fiver at the top, was the worst I had ever seen, it is rare to see one this worn as a £5 was a high value note in the 1950s/60s, the £1 and 10 bob were the workhorses. I paid $5 for it or half face value.

This old 1950s 10 bob note may have had the longest use for 10 or more years. The 10 bob was the lowest note and in the hands of every class, these got trashed.

Our modern Polymer notes, ensure very few get trashed, they are more likely to fade now.

This shot shows $50s from the 1999/03 (Brash), 2004/11 (Bollard) and 2012/15 (Wheeler) eras and all are at least gVF after 20+ years of use.

Orac - Those Irish notes are beautiful - slante! I have one too, but its a battered £1 from 1985!!

Here's one I got in a dealer's junk box many years ago. It has worked hard for a living!

This old Icelandic banknote definitely looks like it had been passed around a lot...

Think there's something written on the back as well, though I hadn't tried to read it.

I like that Icelandic note, @january1may! It's lived quite a hard life.

CollegeBarbers - I'd almost forgotten that £10 notes commonly looked like that not so very long ago! The new polymer ones stay in much better condition!

Here's a well circulated Belgian 20 franc note from 1956:

A lot of our Federal Reserve notes look the same way... So I'm all for making the switch to polymer!

My oldest and smallest banknote (82 x 42 mm) has also experienced some wear over the years: 1861 North Carolina 5 Cents.
