Good afternoon everyone,

I have done a bunch of research both on and off this forum and still can't find the answer I seek, so I am here to see what is happening here. This 2021 P Dime looks like the date and mintmark are doubled (my initial thought was MD because that's all I ever seem to find, but the fact that it is less flat/shelf like than what I am accustomed to seeing), although it doesn't look like that doubling appears anywhere else on the coin. I know from my research that most often doubled dies on these coins appears near the center because of the way single squeeze hubbing works, so I'm really not sure what causes this effect. I don't believe it is a doubled die, but my curiousity has gotten the better of me. If anybody knows what produces this effect please let me know.

Correct. It is Machine Doubling. Note the affected area. It is on the outside edge of the coins devices. There are no DDO's on that area of the design. If there were it would be on the central area of the design, not on the outside edges. No listing for a DDO on dimes, except the one I posted a while back. Just Machine Doubling. Nothing is doubled. What your are seeing is the contour is removed off the devices on that area of the devices.
