I looked at quite a few Cuba Gold 20 Pesos before I picked this one up a few years back. I examined many Mint State coins and found they had extensive and distracting bag marks - not very attractive to my eye.

When I came across this much cleaner AU-58, I knew it was a keeper!

The Cuba Gold 20 Pesos coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint on the same gold planchets that were used for the US Gold Double Eagle coins. They are the work of Charles Barber, US Mint Chief Engraver at the time.

So a Peso was equivalent to a Dollar back then?

Yes, the Cuban Peso circulated at par with the US Dollar until 1959; its coins were struck at the US Mint during this period.
