1919 Buffalo 5c Doubled Die Obverse / DDO Verification & No. Needed

mdpmedia Pillar of the Community United States 3546 Posts	Posted 03/28/2022 6:02 pm I ran into this recently and had to reorientate the camera at an odd angle to capture all of these alleged hub (hopefully) doubling areas in one shot. mdpmedia Pillar of the Community United States 3546 Posts	Posted 03/28/2022 9:50 pm I need someone to differentiate the doubling found on these two side-by-side shots. The photo on the left came from NGC VarietyPlus. The doubling looks virtually identicle especially on the nose profile. I have always found it tough to determine profile hub doubling compared to letters and numeric digits like a 1916/1916 etc. Report this Post to the Staff

The only real tell I think is the doubling on the bottom of the eye-lid, that looks legit. MDP I'd agree with TY I think yours is MD. Report this Post to the Staff

You can have MD on a doubled die, but note examples of DDO that doesn't show the outside edge of the outline affected: Spread Visible: On the examples above, I see just Machine Doubling.
