https://www.newswire.com/news/what-...023-21409166Quote:News Wire Press Release - updated: Jun 7, 2021 NEW YORK, June 7, 2021 (Newswire.com) - "Find a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck." — a saying Gen Alpha will never understand the same way that Gen Zers don't know what a rotary phone is. Soon, finding a penny on the sidewalk will be about as likely as getting struck by lightning twice. The U.S. Mint announced in early April that it will stop producing pennies beginning in 2022 and will make its last batch on April 1, 2023. Don't worry—it's not a Volkswagen-level April Fool's joke. This is the real deal. And it's arguably the biggest coin news since 1857 when Congress discontinued the Half Cent, which believe it or not, people weren't thrilled about at the time. Whoop-de-do, what does it all mean, Basil? The end of the penny as we know it

It looks like a large part of that linked article was lifted from the April Fools joke article... https://cashmoneylife.com/us-mint-c...-production/My guess is it was also posted as a joke. The "updated: Jun 7, 2021" tells me it was probably originally issued Apr 1, 2021.

Honestly, I've had no problems buying a roll of P and D cents for a few bucks each and finding plenty of nice examples for my collection. You can also buy singles or sets of just a few on ebay, for example. My Dansco 7100 stopped in 2021 so I just let my cent collection end there but I am sure for just a few bucks I could easily get nice 2022 coins. I still buy mint uncirculated sets so I actually have all of the coins, even I don't put them in the album.

If this was true about the cent being eliminated I'm sure we would have known about it months ago

I think everyone is right. The elimination of the penny is probably fake news. I am trying to search for some verification of stopping the production of the penny. I hope they don't as far as collecting goes but I am still disappointed with the metals being used. That's why I am loving this board after only a few days here. You get to hear from all sides and great input, thanks everyone who replys.

The coins from 1982 on will just rot away. Any that survive a hundred years will be rare.

Economists believe low inflation to be A Good Thing because it's not as bad as deflation, and it prompts people to buy before the prices go up. Most inflation is caused by the central bank wishing to pay for something, often military operations, without taxation or borrowing. Without periodic revaluing, all physical monetary media is a victim of inflation over time. Make the New Dollar equal to 10 old (existing) dollars, and prices will return to circa 1960, at which point the cent will be meaningful in transactions once again, at least for awhile.

Quote: Source please https://cashmoneylife.com/us-mint-c...-production/Was posted a year ago April 1st, 2021. I think this year, the $1 bill should be retired in favor of the $1 coin. Don't worry though about the penny... if the US Mint ever does retire the penny if they follow the path taken by the Canadian Mint, the Penny will recur every year or two in another commemorative NCLT release... It will never truly be gone.

Quote: @sap what population is growing exponentially? Most developed countries have birth rates less than replacement ...and yet despite the low birth rates, the actual population in most of these countries continues to grow exponentially, because the countries accept immigrants from high birth-rate countries as substitutes/replacements for their own low birth rate. Very few countries actually have declining population, and these are more than outweighed by the majority of countries that maintain exponentiality. The only countries to see consistent and significant population shrinkage are countries which have seen both declining birth rates and high emigration - places like Eastern Europe.
