Day 76Noodled 21 rolls of dollar coins today. One of those rolls contained 9 2022 letter coins, 7 of which were Tasmanian devils. The other 2 were new finds: J for Jumbuck. Now that's one big sheep! H for Hooroo I now have 1 more hooroo coin than people I've ever heard actually say "Hooroo" Nothing of much interest in the other 20 rolls. Total number of one dollar coins noodled: 12400 Number of different coins found: 111/128 2019 A-Z coins found: 16/26 2021 A-Z coins found: 25/26 2022 A-Z coins found: 20/26 NCLT coins found: 17 Mule dollars found: 1

Sorry about misguessing your origin, 9 million people live in Sydney and Melbourne, so I had a 38% chance of being right. It is the same assuming any Kiwi must live in Auckland (34% of the population and you would have been right anyway!)
I don't really rugby, league, tennis or golf and being an autistic gay man thats obese have absolutely no interest in any form of commercial competitive sport. My opposition to the hype over sport belongs in another forum though.
Its great to see so many 2022 coins coming through in the change!

OK, just saw this thread (and a few others) that mentioned 'noodling', now I know that this must be a 'down under' term - one I have never heard before. I san come up with my own interpretation of what it means - but, What exactly does it mean?

I san come up with my own interpretation of what it means - but, What exactly does it mean? It means just to sort coins, looking for rare/unique egs or particular dates. It came from the prospecting industry in Aust.,'noodling' was originally fossicking in piles(Mullock heaps) of discarded waste from mines for Gems,Opal,Gold etc. I've been involved in Coins since the 1960's in Sydney and had never heard of it being used until the Forums started out here in the late 1990's,may have been used in other States to describe Coin hunting however.

Thanks for that - it is very interesting. Quote: fossicking in piles(Mullock heaps) of discarded waste from mines for Gems,Opal,Gold etc Her in the American west we call that "spelunking the tailings" - the waste that gets dumped outside of an old mine.

Day 78Noodled a $500 bag of dollar coins but didn't find any new letter coins. However, I did find my first ever coloured $1 NCLT. I was dumbfounded. This is the first coin I've ever found in circulation in Australia that I had no idea what it was. Reached for the old Macca's guide and eventually found it. It's part of a series called "Unlikely Heroes, Great and Small" and this one is called "The Ship's Cat". The bit in blue is a compass. The paint-job didn't stand up to the rigors of circulation. Here's the obverse Total number of one dollar coins noodled: 12900 Number of different coins found: 111/128 2019 A-Z coins found: 16/26 2021 A-Z coins found: 25/26 2022 A-Z coins found: 20/26 NCLT coins found: 18 Mule dollars found: 1

The bit in blue is a compass. Nice find MachinMachinMan ... pity about the damaged blue print though! I 'd never seen this coin before either so when I checked it out on Numista I found that the blue actually depicts a barometric scale. Interestingly the cat is the 'mascot of the HMAS Encounter peering out of a cannon'.For those who may be interested in seeing the other 5 coins in this series . https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces73235.html

nice one on the cat in the cannon, thing is probably very niche product, although seem quite funny.

Interestingly the cat is the 'mascot of the HMAS Encounter peering out of a cannon'. Thanks for the info coaster. Yes, definitely a barometric pressure scale and not a compass. Like I said I didn't know what I was looking at. Didn't even notice that the cat was in the barrel of a cannon. Weird coin.
