I purchased some coins from a couple and this was in them. I really believe this is post mint damage but I wanted to check with y'all. The edges are smooth so whatever might have happened to this penny was a long time ago. What has me pausing is the fact that the damage is layered. The obverse layer is different from the middle and then different from the reverse layer.

Opinions?

Doesn't really matter how it happened, it is PMD.
There is no way for that to happen when it was struck.

Yes those three pinches are damage for sure. This coin is only worth face value now.

What gives me pause, is the fact that presumably serious people here REDACTED BY STAFF

Its typically b/c our "presumably serious people" who answer are not to proud to help someone no matter their level of understanding. We have young kids coming here as well as older people and do not judge the OP's level of understanding b/c we do not know the person asking.

A proud attitude is something which can chase a legitimate learner away easily. So we would rather focus on coin issues than any one individual's ideas concerning the character, education, knowledge, or perceived feelings of others who make posts here.

Please lighten up a bit.

Very serious answer: post mint damage. How/why doesn't really matter, damage is damage.
