Quote: Total is $107.00 at is charged by PCGS Holy Cow! That's a lot of Diet Pepsis!! Looks like something I don't want to do at this time, but do note you add the first strike option in as well. But glad I asked and learned a bit. Thanks!

For older classic coins grading/slabbing/authenticating them is a good thing IMO. For modern coins/bullion grading/slabbing labels like First Strike, Early Releases etc. has become a popular way to collect. They are successful marketing products. I prefer to keep my Mint products in their original boxes with COA, but to each their own. People should collect whatever/however they want. But the US Mint does not keep close track of which coins are released in relation to when they were struck. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First...ke_(coinage)

Yes, it is expensive - and it goes to show that ordinary coins should not get graded because the value of the coin is greatly surpassed by the cost of grading.

Wait a minute!! @dearborn You were complaining about the cost: Quote: Which is why these 'dollar' coins are so expensive. (ok, increase the price due to the silver content) but 50 bucks over spot?) But you just paid $107 for 2 pieces of plastic and a label! Quote: Total is $107.00 at is charged by PCGS Add my shipping and insurance costs to PCGS Just saying

Quote: Believe me they have crunched the numbers and taking the truckloads of products from the different minting facilities to the two contract facilities in the central part of the country makes the most sense. A couple observations I've made about shipping. Time to turn on "The Wayback Machine". First I do want to address the above quote. Both the Morgan and Peace were minted in Philadelphia, there are no different mint facilities, unless your are referring to places besides the mint itself. Why they needed to be sent to different shipping locations is beyond me. Well, unless one shipping facility would be overloaded. OK, way back machine (strike up a few chords on a harp): Remember how everything transpired in 2021? First order day in May for the O and CC was so messed up they pushed back the other 2 release days while they tried to get rid of the bots. There 2 other days were marginally better, not much. The second order day was for the S and D (minted at those facilities, the only 2 that weren't Philly), then the third order day was the normal, non privy Philly and the Peace dollar, also a P. OK, hopefully you were all on the ground floor when this all happened. Then they were shipped. They managed to ship all the coins from the same order day together then, even the S and D. Why couldn't they manage to get these in the same box?

The one thing I noticed is that these were shipped faster. My last order was shipped a few days after it was supposed to. This shipped on the release day. The reason for 2 centers could be because the service center provider changed or is changed. Considering the wait room, subscription are new maybe it's a new provider. https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...-fulfillment

Quote:My Morgans should be delivered on Saturday from the Irving facility My Peace dollars have been processed thru the Memphis facility and are on track for delivery on Monday. Both show acceptance and movement thru the USPS tracking website. Woohoo! Same here.

I suppose it would be more expensive for each of the four mints to have its own distribution/shipping center. Having two more centrally located in the nation, Memphis, Irving TX apparently makes sense to them and I assume more cost effective.

@Helder: I only brought up the price is because if they lowered their (the mint) price a bit, I would buy more of their products. Anyway, when the mint produced the 2021 Morgan/Peace coins I thought that they would be a "One off" production. So I graded them as such. But now that I started it, I may as well continue with the grading. I great thing is that I'm not behind the on this one and trying to get a ton of coins graded for a set. At this point I don't have any Morgan dollars or Peace dollar - Will I get some at some point? Don't know yet, but if I do, maybe they too will already be graded. But that is a bridge that may get crossed later. Right now I'm now just keeping up with current mint releases, and slowly upgrading my Dansco coins that are in a worn condition to all BU. That is my true goal, to have all modern coins of all denominations in BU condition in my albums.

I decided to pass on the uncirculated 2023's. I have the P/D/S 2021 Morgans and am signed up for the 2023 proof Morgan. It seems like this may become an annual thing, but fine not to partake.

@ John,
Just busting your chops!
I understand and as of today graded coins have a small premium (in ms/pf70) compared to raw. That said mine are raw. I'll probably stop the Morgan's and collect only the peace going forward. I just want to see what they do in 2024, if only uncirculated and proof, I'll just do proof peace going forward.

Quote: That is my true goal, to have all modern coins of all denominations in BU condition in my albums. To a very limited degree, that is my goal, too, but I starting collecting again from scratch just this February. It is an open book for me. I am now focusing on Kennedy's as one area, but these modern era dollars is another I am beginning.

Just busting your chops! yep, I know, but I thought I would use that as an opportunity to explain what my plans are moving forward. Now maybe I should NOT grade out the uncirculated ones and only do the proofs, this way if Dansco ever decides to make an album for them, I would instead put them there. Only time will tell.
