I assume they take a look at returns and decide to reject them or put them back in inventory. In the past the Mint has sometimes offered special deals to clear inventory. I don't know if this is still policy but here is an old article saying they go through a process to melt them: https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...-mint-p.html

I purchased a PCGS PR70 Peace dollar to go with the one I got from the mint. I can't catch a break here. There is a speck of dust or something inside the PCGS holder directly in front of Liberty's nose. Very distracting.

Lint is an issue with these. My Morgan which I took out of the capsule was an ectrostatic dust magnet. Coupled with a case that sheds black lint hard to keep these pristine. I've been thinking about taking all of these outside the case and storing them just in the capsule.

Went to a larger size coin show last Sunday and found hundreds of proof Morgan and Peace dollars on display at extended prices. I checked and they are still for sale at the Mint at $80/ea. I have no idea if any dealer sold their coins, but feel sorry for any collectors who don't use the internet to shop.

Great Discussion, My experience is I was Completely Dissatisfied with the U S Mints's MORGAN PROOFS Quality, ( I Received ), So I Sought out a PR-70 Set, The Set was a Last ditch effort to acquire a Perfect MORGAN. The PCGS Deep Cameo First Strike PR-70 Set was Another Disappointment. The Peace dollars were ALL Sweet in My U S Mint's Directly mailed to Me Products, The SET was To ASSURE having a Perfect MORGAN.( most mailed directly to me, were Sub Par.......). The PR-70 (MORGAN ) Coin Has Obverse Flaws On Her, ( ANNA's ) Face, I Quit........ Whom Ever Checked THIS Morgan, Was NOT looking., PCGS, The Vendor I bought from, Except ME.!!!.....

Were you able return or exchange it? Luckily the seller I bought from is sending me a new replacement PR70 Peace dollar and a return shipping label at no cost.

Check ebay sold prices. Sometimes proof commemorative and proof silver eagles drop in price a few months after the hype of new release, there are exceptions like the 2021 Morgan and Peace.

Quote: Can someone tell me what a good price if I wanted to purchase PR-70 The AVC coin show on TV has NGC PR-70's at $150.00. They also sell PR-70's with 'gimmick' labels for $200/ea +. I checked The Coin Vault website and they don't seem to have any under $200/ea; and all their postings are for other gimmick slabs.

@ atticguy if I purchase 2023 Peace Silver Dollar - S Proof - NGC 70 Standard don't know what standard means for 149.95 that's a good price it would help me on how to buy coins. I don't know what advance, fun and those other words means, I just want to buy a good 70 this time or do I need to wait on the reverse proof. Thanks for replying and your help. https://avccoins.com/2023-morgan-peace-1944
