I'm a little interested in this Morgan, an 1880 O is a little better than common in high AU and above, and if I can get it for the right price, which for me is always way below market, and so if the consensus is high AU or better, not cleaned and the rim not a deal breaker, I just might continue my interest. To me the coin looks dirty and I think a little soak might improve the coin. But that being said, these are sellers pictures and they are what they are, so from these less than ideal pictures, what grade do you think it might be. And does anyone want to take a stab at what's going on with the rim, and what ever it is, do you think it's enough to keep it from even getting a grade? And I wouldn't send this in for grading anyway even if I did wind up getting it, but the info would just help me decide on whether or not I remain interested enough to bid. Thanks ............ I'd say AU-55, maybe 58. The rim looks fine, those are some minor rim Cuds. Some nice clashes, hard to see with these photos, but it might be a VAM-65A.

Not a Morgan collector but my opinion is that the rim issue occurred during minting. I've seen it on dimes from New Orleans during this era. The explanation I recall is that it was a die/collar misalignment issue.

Thanks folks. Sort of what I was thinking. Can't decide between a 58 and a 63. either way, as of right now the bid is still under $30 so it still piques my interest and I'm still interested, but we'll see where it goes ....... thanks.

I am at 58, but would not be surprised from a 55.

the 80(O) is one of the better struck years at this mint. looking at this one and the higher grade the strike is less than optimal for the year. its not a big deal as its not going to affect the grade much as I dont think this coin is MS. most of what looks like wear on the hair around the ear and definitely the breast are strike related. under the dirt I'm not seeing a lot marks or scuffs. I think the rim is a collar roll that occurred during striking. no impact on grade.
she might clean up. I have it at AU58. I think there is a decent coin under the dirt. at that price its a good buy and if it cleans up an even better buy

You're stuck between a 58 and a 63?
This is by no means Uncirculated, I can guarantee you that.
Au55 is what I think it would grade.
