1944 P Lincoln Wheat Cent - Cud Or Bent Rim Fin?

sheldius Pillar of the Community United States 1204 Posts	Posted 08/01/2022 10:52 pm I'm leaning towards the metal covering the NUM on reverse being a bent over Rim Fin since the inside rim edge is distinct and looks intact, instead of it being part of a Cud blob of metal. I also tried some different lighting to help make it more visible. Thoughts? Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 08/02/2022 09:54 am Look at the edge of the coin? You should see a wrap around piece on that edge. Looks like a struck through debris issue on this one from what I can see. Not a lamination issue, as they are flat and on the surface of the roll stock. it would be impossible for this to be a lamination if it wraps around the edge of the coin. A Rim Fin would not be that large to cover both edges of the coin's faces. So I'm sticking with the debris issue on this one. Report this Post to the Staff

sheldius Pillar of the Community United States 1204 Posts	Posted 08/02/2022 11:14 pm Thanks everyone for the help. Following Coop and Kopper Ken's suggestions I examined the edge. Should have done that but didn't think of it. I've tried to get a photo of the edge, but it doesn't really show. In hand I can see the debris material has wrapped over the edge of the coin and has a clear line of separation about 25% down the rim. I've put arrows where you can sort of see it.
