Hello all, I found this 1988 D Lincoln Memorial penny in my change last week and thought it looked odd, upon closer examination it appears that the copper plating was never done. I was hoping someone with more experience could shed some light. Thank you for your time, Rick

to the CCF

Put another cent on top of it and see if they are both the same size.
Also I think you mean Planchet, not blanchard.

Not to doubt you but are you sure it's the same dia. Looks like a Texas Cent. You can still see some of the plating on the edge and around the reverse.

I used a micrometer and they both mic at 8/10 of an inch. I also weighed them and they both weight 2.4 grams. What would cause this?

I do appreciate the help, I see what you are saying about there being some plating in spots. This is why I am asking you fine folks, because I do not know enough to say one way or the other. Is there anything I can do to help you figure out what we are looking at? Different picture angles or pics of the micrometer readings?

most likely this coin is discolored due to some environmental exposure, such as buried in dirt for awhile

(and it's planchet not planchette, even if a female is depicted on the coin)

Seems to be in pretty good shape to have been buried.but if you think its nothing then ill throw it in the jar.
Again, thanks for the guidance.

I agree with nick that this coin is just toned. Copper can take on many different colors depending on its environment.
