Keeping my fingers crossed for the final four... but I do have to say in the 10 years I've been doing this CCF Secret Santa, this is by far the best year we've had. Only four outstanding by 1/10?! Outstanding!

I would like to thank rggoodie for organizing this gift exchange. It involved a great deal of time, and brought joy to so many people here on the Forum. I'm already looking forward to 2023's Secret Santa. Being new, I took the following approach: Quote: 3 You must agree to send a coin or banknote with a minimum purchase value of US 10 dollars ($ 10) to the person you are assigned to. After seeing what some people received, I'll be much more generous this year.

JimJumper, I thought the tobacco bag tag was cool and the moment I saw it I though it would be a neat thing to send for SS.
I decided to send a rather eclectic mix as you mentioned in a previous post you have pretty much completed sets of modern US stuff.
I figured, seeing as you are also retired Navy, you would immediately know what some of the stuff is and who does not enjoy looking at drawings of ships with big guns? lol
I normally send a nice letter with a short description of the items but I have not been able to get my dang printer to work since this last move. go figure. Please ask if you have any questions.
Enjoy!

Thanks go to my Secret Santa! You almost read my mind! After 4 years in Japan including numerous trips to Sasebo and 3 years in the Philippines I have been slowly collecting things from there. And the tobacco tag is somethig I've never seen before! I brought back a large number of 5 centavo pieces (value: 350=$1) but spent them all when I discovered they were the same size as a nickel and worked great in the barracks beer machine! Thanks for my gift!

Cool stuff, there Jimjumper. What's the story behind the War Ration Book Four? Is that WWII era?

CelticKnot, yes these were WWII ration booklets. Everything from sugar to rubber was rationed for the war effort then, which led to the legend of "maypop" tires. The one I own is interesting - note the personal information required on the cover. The stamps inside depict artillery, tanksbattleships, and planes. No indication of how these stamps were to be redeemed.

If I remember correctly, my mom told me one had to give a certain amounts of these stamps to purchase something from the shop. She remembered having to go down to the store with the ration cards to buy some milk or butter, rarely eggs (think my grandma does not want to risk them—did not want her to break them on way back home). I can ask my mom tomorrow. I see why you are interested in these booklets! It is cos of these stamps. Surprised they would show military stuff on them! Majority were tossed out after the war was over. Shame, isn't it?

Santa Claus had berated me for my belated delivery but I was sick before and after Christmas. I got much better this week. Santa Claus sent one of his Elves to me on Tuesday so he could deliver the wee package and it should arrive tomorrow. Plus Santa Claus also sent another Elf to collect a package today as it is a very special one as it is going to his native land! We do not know when it would arrive there. Elves are pretty exhausted from their yearly distribution. They politely asked me to do it much earlier next time barring illnesses. Apologies in advance!
