I've bought from Vcoins but it's been a while. I think the dealers there are legit, honest and should offer returns. I've heard of a few fakes being sold on Vcoins, hopefully more a dealer not knowing rather than being deceptive.

You could compare it with pics of fakes on places like forgery network or the forgery database on Forum Ancient Coins.

Porous coins could be cast fakes or due to them laying in the ground for a long time corroding. Porous coins are cheaper but usually don't appreciate a lot in value.

If you got if for a good price and want to keep it you could send it off for authenticity to someone like David Sear or NGC. Or if you want, pass on this one, save $ and wait to buy one with better metal.

One thing you could do, if you live close to a coin store who has a metal analyzer, take the denarius there and check it's metal content, whether silver or non silver metal.

Yes ancient silver coins can be corroded and porous. Here's my most porous coin in my collection, AE Vespasian, asserion, reverse victory. I bought it from Bill Rosenblum over twenty years ago, $20. When I got it, it was heavily encrusted, I cleaned it. Of course better examples are much more expensive.

I am happier with the fields on the CNG examples than the fields of the OP's coin.
