From the Everingham Sale where Warren Baker does the first die state analysis of W23 ... he calls this one Die State C - the previous die state (B) the triangle Cud is smaller and the crack more hairline. In either case yours is an obvious earlier state - students moving forward will advance the die states more and more. Baker at this time predicted a Die State A should exist but no W23 has ever been seen without a die crack from K12/K6 behind the GII Portrait IMO. I have yet to view the new Charlton Colonial Book which advances the Blacksmiths to new levels due to a very knowledgeable token dealer/researcher <BG> and due to the Partrick Sale who bought Baker's Collection minus all the Blacksmiths Baker sold to the Bank of Canada back in the early days.
