All the pics of me in uniform were taken looooong before digital cameras and the internet (AUTOSEVOCOM and AUTODIN excepted). What few military prints of me are in my sister's possession and she's holding onto them for blackmail purposes. I also don't like pics taken of me , so have only a couple around in digital format, would have to tear this place apart to find one on paper. Berry, what year was that taken? Best I can guess from the non-subdued insignia and Spec6 (E-6 for squids and newbies) rank is the early to mid-60s, maybe a little later due to the M-16 (can't tell from this side if it's an A-1 model). Hi Everyone! We made it back to "Hoosierville" today. We had a great time visiting with Bobby,Susan,James and Thomas. Susan has two very cool cats named Zachery and Magic. Dover is beautiful. We hit the antique shops, some used book stores and went to Dover's historic district. Very nice place. Bobby and Susan have basically re-modeled the entire inside of their house in about 2 months! We also enjoyed Bobby's "mini cinema" ala a 55 inch HD TV with a surround system that shakes the walls and makes you look behind you to see where bullets, horse hoofs and knocks on the doors are coming from! We also visited Steve, AKA "National Dealer" at his coin shop, "Mid-Atlantic Coins" in Dover. I picked up a great PCGS MS62 1921 High Relief Peace dollar as well as a very funny Danial Carr designed spoof of the Indiana State Quarter. Thanks to all of you for bringing such great life to this thread. I can't wait to see more posts. Thanks Bobby, Susan and family for your great hospitality. Mike P.S., My tatoo's are an ongoing lifelong project. I am working on a complete sleeve on my right arm that is being finished from the elbow down with a dinosaur theme. The left arm will be finished at some point, again from the elbow down in bio- mechanicals.....

Morgan Fred, you and scoutjim99 were right on target. It was 1966 and I think it is one of only three pictures taken of me in RVN. We use to carry a Leica Camera for Intelligence purposes as the Chicom was duplicating many of our munitions and we had to photograph everything we could before destroying the ordnance. That was an early version of the M-16, but we use to destroy these weapons by the hundreds, after engagements. If the enemy had any of these weapons in their possession they were not allowed to be re-issued to our troops. We use to rebuild our weapons from the many parts that we had from captured weapons and carried many spare parts in our vehicle. If I remember right they changed the bolt in the M-16 and virtually all of the jams magically went away, thank God. I was a Spec 6 and wore the EOD Badge. We use to get P.O'd as we were in the bush with all the bright rank insignia that we had to wear which could be seen from a long distance. One stupid thing (of many things) that we had to do was when we gyro'd to RVN, we had to take our old "winter greens" which after a few months of lugging around, mildewed and they then collected all the uniforms in RVN and disposed of them. Anyhow, I wanted the other people to know about another time and era before the Mid-east. I think today's troops are an outstanding bunch as were the troops during my era. Berry PS, If you look on the driver's side of the vehicle you will see an M-14, which we would never go to the field without. The "Elephant Gun" was a long shooting bearcat that could reach out 500 meters with no problem. The only problem was that it weighed a ton to carry around in the jungle.

I for one and glad that so many of you decided to post your pics! I'm proud of you for deciding to do that here. It takes a lot to publish a photo when most of us don't enjoy having our pics taken in the first place. Thanks for posting!
