In my experience, the smaller fish always taste better.
Out here on the east coast the halibut grow to to over 600 lbs. Unfortunately the chances of catching one are slim to none since they've been nearly fish out of existence. Salmon are also pretty hard to find. You've gotta travel to Maine or Canada to find them (which I have done).

Catfish are the only monsters we get here in Kansas.......my Grandpa used to catch em' as big as me ! There are huge Largemouth Bass too and near record Bluegill and Crappie here....not too bad....but doesn't hold a candle to Alaska or the East Coast I'm sure.

OK, Shane ... you started this. Trip to Seward, AK at the end of May this year. We fished halibut four days and our party had their limit each day. Biggest was 118 lbs. Here's one day's bounty ... these are between 35 and 95 lbs. Man those seas were calm and the sun was shining ... in the mid-70's.

Did you get sick of eating Halibut after a while? I brought back over 50 pounds of dorado from a trip to Mexico in 2003. After a while I was giving the stuff away. Since we're telling fish stories, here's me with a 120# sailfish a few years ago:

Nice Sail Rick! Wanna trade some Halibut for Mahi? I hear ya' Eaglefoot! Between May and Sep in the lower 48 I think of little except ALASKA! Well, maybe a coin now and again. When I win the lottery I'm getting a cabin on the Kenai and staying there from the middle of May til the end of September every year. My passion is really salmon fishing, but my buddy set this trip up and we only fished for halibut. It killed me being so close to the Kings, but not able to wet a line for them. Got a few more pics of that last trip ... The view from the door of the cabin ...

I've only spent 13 days there. (and this was 3 or 4 years ago now) But I always feel "homesick" for Alaska. Since I was 5 years old, I told everybody that I was going to live there someday ! In third grade my Stepdad gave me a set of binoculars for my Birthday, and with the card it said...."This is for your trip to Alaska".......That's LITERALLY how long I had wanted to go there ! So, it REALLY WAS a trip of a lifetime for me !.... Though I could have done without the "6 day cruise" portion of the 13 days there...it was great and all, fun/memorable, but I wanted to be "on land" and touch and feel and hike and fish and camp, etc. etc. etc. etc. (!) I've told the girlfriend about the train ride on the Alaskan Railway from Denali to Anchorage too.....she's anxious to go too now, but says NOT UNTIL WE'RE MARRIED !...... I got to meet Susan Butcher before she died on that trip ! (honored to have done that !)....met Jeff King too......Some Athabascan Natives too.....spent some beautiful time around Fairbanks...... Awwwwww !.....miss that soooo much ! I'll have to live vicariously through your pics I guess for now ! Sidenote......I saw two Hells Angels pass us while we were en route to Mt. McKinley !.....weirdly enough, the only other time I've seen Hells Angels aboard their Harleys, was right here in Kansas on I70 ! Rode right behind them in my truck for a few miles !

I look like this, there's still a couple hundred pounds you can't see but I can still climb a ladder and get in a tree. I bet y'all thought I looked more like a beagle, huh?

I've seen this thread several times since I first started hanging out here, thought I should show my ugly mug. I don't have any fish pictures so these will have to do. The first picture is at what's known as the "280 Boogie". It's in a little town called Waverly, Alabama, where the main(& only) road used to be Hwy 280. The Hwy has been moved but the road is still there. A couple times a year they close the road off and have bands play all day & into the night. This next picture is from Rock City in Tennessee. I've seen the signs that said "See Rock City" for years. We drove through there this summer & had to stop.

Wheezy ... did you get one this year? That tree stand looks way too cozy. In mine I have to face the elements ... this year 15 degree temps with a 30 mph wind. Did a lot of walking around. and trdhrdr007 (you have to tell everybody how you got that handle cuz there's lots of new folk here) ... no fair posting pictures of sunshine this time of year.

Those pictures are from spring & summer, although it was sunny & 70 degrees yesterday. Daytime temps have been running into the 60's with light rain. It was very tempting to get the bike out but we had a cold spell back in November so I put fuel stabilizer in & stored her for the winter.
