I recently picked up this 1920 Buffalo nickel that I think is a good match for what Ron Pope describes in his Abraded Die Varieties book as the 2 Feather No F (missing designer initial) 2FNF. As with the example in Ron's book there is a small bit of the 3rd feather remaining next to the long feather but significant abrasion into the back of the neck. There doesn't appear to be any traces of the designer initial and seems like some abrasion on the top half of the ribbons coming down from the Indians braid. I have a handful of 1920 2F's but this is the first I have come across as a 2FNF so it seems IMO much harder to find, would be curious to know if others have come across the 1920 2FNF in their variety hunting. Thanks

Really nice pick-up, great condition as well. I need to read Pope's book more instead of look at the pretty pictures.

Great abraded die combo there buddy! What seems interesting looking at the pics, and you can probably judge better in hand, is there seems to be an excessive amount of die polishing, but not much in the way of Die Deterioration? From these it looks about MDS? If that's the case, that's a pretty extreme amount of obverse die polishing for the given die state. Very cool find!

Thanks, it is an interesting one.
Ty2020b that is a good point about the die state, I think they are both obverse and reverse about middle die states the USA is still pretty solid and really tough to see the EPU die clash but think I just make out a weak one more towards the unum, certainly plenty of evidence or removed evidence on the obverse, surprised it is not more noticeable on the reverse.

Some die flow lines especially towards the back legs of the buffalo and some around the periphery but does look like they polished the fields at some point. Quite a bit of abrasion that I just noticed on closer look by the top of the 2 longer feathers by the bow as well. I do think you are right that when we see this kind of die abrasion it is usually in a much later die state so definitely an interesting observation. Would be curious to see how this one looks in a higher grade so we will have to be on the lookout.

Seems kind of scarce given the die state but maybe they got tired of trying to "fix it" and pulled the dies.
