Quote: Possible collar hit that chipped off part of the planchet, and it was struck onto the reverse. Seeing the gray on both sides of the rim area, makes me think this did happen. With the missing area on the proto rim, it would not form the rim on that area of the rim, but the contact mark didn't have enough Proto rim to form the full rim there, leaving the hit on the planchet still visible after the strike. First time I've seen this before.
Exactly what I've thought of. I've come across a few of these. I also came to the conclusion the the proto rim was knicked and then that piece gets onto the Planchet when entering the striking chamber. Funny too, some say it's impossible to have a piece of the rim going onto a coin that is currently being struck bc the rim forms then. But proto rim wise possible it's a nice talking point controversial tho so minor of an error. And pretty obvious it is a strike thru
