Lately I have been a massive sucker for ebay and the first titles and coins that have been shot in perfect lighting and angles. Recently picked this up. Wondering if I should put in my pile to send off to PCGS....? Would love to hear the boards opinion. Also looks better in real life than in these photos. Edited by Shtiv 12/28/2022 5:57 pm

It looks cleaned based on the obverse. I can see hairlines on the fields.

Poor-looking coin, heavily cleaned. With respect, you need to learn a great deal more about grading before you consider sending coins to a TPG.

Agree with all above. The desire to submit coins for grading can be very strong--almost irresistible. Suggest becoming more familiar with coin grades and grading considerations before going down that path.

"Poor-looking coin, heavily cleaned. With respect, you need to learn a great deal more about grading before you consider sending coins to a TPG. " - Working on it day and night, I've got good eyes but this is hard when starting out in grading, at least for me. Unfortunately I have not had the best luck buying "High Grade" and "BU" coins from LCS, ebay and OCD's". Fortunately, it's just a hobby, and with time and a little experience, I think I'll figure it out.

Looking at coins already certified by a top 3rd party grader would be a good way to start

I'm amazed at how sleazy coin dealers are on ebay, a lot of "Just return it if you don't like it". I'm one who does not like to return items, and it's totally rude of businesses to do this all day to individuals, such a tremendous letdown and waste of time. Unfortunately, I keep getting sucked into completely false advertising, completely bogus photos and 99%+ feedback.

Thank you very much Coinfrog!!! I'm just tired of being misled by "dealers", I have too much trust and patience with sleazeballs selling me garbage. I order this "junk" and it says BU, high grade etc, but my research says otherwise, leading me to this amazing group on CC. It is my hope that my forums will help others and myself get educated, plus it give us something to talk about .

My experiences with AuctionKings (I hope it is okay to mention their name) have been disappointing. This is the coin I was expecting:

What do/did you expect for a grade?

First of all, I definitely did not expect all the imperfections and/or cleaning marks. In response to your question, I was hoping for at least a MS63. I was thinking this company and others buy in bulk and are in the business of selling high quality in massive qualities.

I would say, if you want a graded Morgan dollar. Buy on that is already graded. I don't know what you are paying for these coins. $40-50 Maybe more + grading fees +shipping both way You're looking at $120 or more https://www.ebay.com/itm/266050191465There are out there

Hey Shtiv, any time you buy a raw coin on ebay you take your chances and the folks here are right - spend a lot of time learning the basics of grading. Otherwise buy only graded coins from highly reviewed sellers. Also, as everyone here likes to say - buy the coin not the holder. I always message sellers for more details before pulling the trigger on any coin. Just a few thoughts.
