Nice finds. 2 weeks ago, I found a 1919 S barely legible second 9 in the date. Old wheaties are few and far between, but hunting eventually pays off. Good luck all.

Quote: Low mintage in 2009 because of the Great Coin Jar Dump of 2008 @jbuck very interesting! I did not know that. The mint made relatively few 2009 nickels (and I read dimes too) compared to normal years.

Yup. The economic problems of 2008 had people turning in all their loose change. This made the banks flush with coinage, so no demand from the Fed to mint the normal volume.

Well, I didn't think I would come back to this thread so soon, but I just found a 1916-P in the second-to-last roll in a Loomis box. It's pretty slick and not in the best condition, but it's still a 107-year-old coin, so I'll take it. So now I have the following: - 1891 Indian Head cent- 1901 Indian Head cent- 1909-P Wheat cent (not VDB) - 1909-P Wheat cent (not VDB) - 1916-P Wheat cent- 1917-P Wheat cent- 1919-S Wheat cent- 1920-P Wheat cent- 1920-P Wheat cent- 1920-P Wheat cent- 1921-S Wheat centCheers! Quote:I've been searching nickels lately. I have found 1 buffalo in the last 4 boxes. An in the last 6 boxes I found 1 V nickel. I can't tell you how surprised I was a 1900 still in circulation. But my question to you is where is all the 2009 nickels? In the last 6 boxes I have found none. I've had better luck with 2009 nickels in my area, but I've never found a V nickel, which is proving really hard to find after a good number of boxes and customer rolls.

I seem to be having better luck with older Wheat cents lately. Just found a 1918-P today in a half-new Loomis roll (50% 2022's), so I suppose it was a good decision on my part to go through those rolls, despite them not looking so hot. The "8" is kind of worn off. I looked at it with my loupe and my wife looked at it, too, so I'm pretty sure that it's an "8". In any case, now I have the following: - 1891 Indian Head cent- 1901 Indian Head cent- 1909-P Wheat cent (not VDB) - 1909-P Wheat cent (not VDB) - 1916-P Wheat cent- 1917-P Wheat cent- 1918-P Wheat cent- 1919-S Wheat cent- 1920-P Wheat cent- 1920-P Wheat cent- 1920-P Wheat cent- 1921-S Wheat centCheers!

That is a cool find AllSeasons, sometimes the new rolls will have one or two older coins mixed in. One time I went through a $100 box of nickels, and $99.95 was brand new, and $0.05 was old (only one old nickel in with the 2022 nickels in a whole box). This was last year I encountered that box of nickels.

This was last year I encountered that box of nickels. I purchased a box like that like three months ago when I was hitting all of the banks in my area in hopes of hitting more of that Brinks hoard of 100 1938-1974 Unc. and key/semi-key date Jeffersons I found amongst half a box in mid-February.... 3 pre-2022s in 10 rolls (400 coins) searched - full of 2022-Ds. I figured the odds of me finding something good in the the remaining 40 rolls were slim and none - the enders except for 1 or 2 were all shiny new 2022-Ds, so rather than waste my time, I just took them all to another bank as a dump and got another box elsewhere.
