Very nice find, even if it's a little bit beat up. I wish I can find one.

Makes you wonder how it lasted so long "out there". It's the Dan Cooper of Jefferson nickels. Nice snag. I have never found one myself in circulation. Even 1950's are hard to come by.

I'm guessing it's just damage. that whole coin is pretty badly mangled, front and back.

Yep, No doubling- the base of the 5 has been hit and spread out- its definitely damage.
Thanks for the reponses!

A 50D!! Right on, I just went through a box and guess what......NOTHING, well actually I got a hardly recognizable 57D I mean really? This sucks. No buffalos after 6 boxes, no silver for the past 3, man I'm bad at this!

Quote:Searched another box and no 50-D I think finding 1 1950 D is a rare find. It will take you a lot more than another box I bet. Probably more like 50 boxes might get you warmed up. Just ask coppernickeldaddy. There are post 1959 nickels in these rolls ladies and gentlemen, that can be much rarer finds than circulated War Nickels and semi key dates of the pre 1960's. Any 1961 D 1962 D 1963 D 1964 D 1965 1968 D 1968 S 1969 D 1969 S 1970 D 1970 S 1976 1979 well struck with a good amount of step detail in MS63 or better is a super find. Any BU 1982 P 1982 D 1983 P 1983 D are hard to find. Also look at your 1990 D that is missing the FS initials under Jefferson's bust. They are really hard to find. Don't be throwing gem BU nickels back in the wrappers just because they are not pre 1960's. You'll wish you kept a dozen nice rolls of newer ones in unusually nice conditions soon enough.

I bought a roll today just for fun.
52 70S
were all that was in it I needed, but there were also
59 62 62D
---and several of the 2004 & 2005 Westward Journey Denver Mint series which I'm saving.

I go through a box every now and then, and I come across quite a few 1968-S, 1969-S, and 1970-S, and I used to save everyone I get but I just recently dumped them cause I figured there not worth saving. Should I be saving these nickels? and how many do you guys keep?

I found a few of those 68S,69S,and 70S and some were nice UNC's, so I am keeped them. I am filling two Whitman Jefferson nickel books so I am saving any super nice coins I can use in the books and throw back any other for someone else to find.

I mostly keep all coins pre 64 back. I also keep anything that looks AU+ regardless of date. Wheezy did bring the 1990 FS to light so I'll keep my eyes open for that one as well.
