Indeed, the drop down allows you to choose the mintmark which gets to the correct valuation for the grade, range of values at various grades and even gives you the mintage for your coin.

It takes a certain amount of dexterity and knowledge of image manipulation software to be able to crop nice composite images of coins. I thought that as my eyesight and hand dexterity diminishes with age, how I would continue to catalog my collection. Looks like AI is the perfect answer for that even if we have to wait a little for bettet grading. I feel like this silly app solved one of my life's problems, although not the one I thought it was going to solve.
The app is still limited by the quality of the pictures so it doesn't solve everything for now, but I bet that in time it will be able to correct image blurriness much better than we can. We are certainly horrible at this as I can attest.

That coin does look plenty fake on a 2nd look. The algorithm is definitely not there yet.

I suppose it's not a fake coin detector. The algorithm would need to be trained separately for that. But AU seems like a perfectly reasonable grade for the fake. The algorithm checks for luster and this coin doesn't appear to have any, so for strictly grading purposes, it seems to do better than I expected.

There's a huge difference between MS60 and MS65 for example, and if it can't distinguish then it has a long way to go. I'm curious if an AU58 coin fools it. I agree providing 1970s grading does seem useful today. I feel like PCGS was looking into machine grading in the 1990s. Maybe it was someone else. As others have said, the terms alone make it a hard pass for me. |

Tried one of the ancients in my collection, a Tenedos tet and the app mistook it for a thaler. I tried a better known ancient on my collection, an Athena Owl tet and was way off the mark again identifying it. But they said it wasn't too good recognizing ancients. maybe for folks new to collecting it would be ok but it needs to advance to assign numeric grades to be of value. there is just to much difference in value between grades especially on rarer and high end coins. it may get there but its going to be a while. I would not use it as it has no value to me in actually grading coins yet to assign a possible value. like a value of $3 or $3060 is not going to cut it
