Rarity Of Australian Commonwealth/ Reserve Bank 10 Shilling Notes

totty Valued Member Australia 77 Posts	Posted 04/28/2023 11:14 pm Hi all, I sell some various coins I normally get from estate sales on ebay, don't make much but it's mostly just for a hobby plus it cancels out some of my other purchases. Anyway I get the occasional predecimal note and notice the Coombs/ Wilson 10 shillings type, in particular, sells for quite a bit even in poor condition (often well over 100 aud even for a circulated example!) I was wondering what it is about these notes which makes them so collectible? It strikes me as odd since the notes of higher denominations- 1 pound, 5 pound, 10 pound often sell for less. I can't seem to find any mintage data but I wouldn't imagine the mintage is especially low. Anyone care to help me out here? Thanks! Report this Post to the Staff

It seems at the time of the changeover, there was a much greater tendency by the Public to keep an example of the outgoing Ten Shillings Note as a keepsake. Report this Post to the Staff

In 1961 Which makes them the easiest Australian 10/- note to collect..Coombs/Watt are harder as they only made 75,000,000... Report this Post to the Staff

True (cfu) original CoombsWilson 10/- notes especially TPG graded 65-66 PQ notes are severely underpriced... Report this Post to the Staff
