You mean the Premier Silver proof sets. The Prestige sets were clad proof sets with a silver commemorative dollar and (sometimes) a commemorative half dollar.

Yeah, it is really easy to confuse the two similar words.

Previously I've ordered three or six sets but with the price of the 2023 set it will definitely only be three.
As far as working backwards, I'm back to 2016 so far.

I'll definitely have a stopping point, I just haven't thought about how far I'll go back. Every now and then when the mood strikes me I'll order a couple of years and I'll see where I end up.

That's way out of my reach. I was thinking maybe 2000 and that's a big maybe considering three of each set.
This is a side project because I will still be buying the coins I'm collecting now like ASE, Libertad, Krugerrand, etc.

Some would see this as not a good investment, long term.
Others would get this set, irrespective of the price.

I guess that is the difference between
an investor in their coin collecting hobby, and
one who loves their coin collecting hobby.

I guess that most of us are somewhere between these two types of individuals.

I stopped collecting NCLT about 25 years ago.
Pricewise, my experience is that most (not all)) NCLT,
doesn't do well in the numismatic aftermarket, despite the fancy packaging.

For sure, and in most cases (as you mentioned) that's accurate, in large part due to the quantities produced. As the sage Pawn Stars boys say, anything that's produced with the intention of being collected usually isn't collectible.

But that goes to your other point, many of us collect for the joy of collecting itself, not as an investment. That said, the surging prices of US Mint products has taken a lot of the joy out of it for me. I'm teetering on shifting/narrowing the focus of my collection or abandoning modern US coins completely. Doing so would free up quite a bit of cash flow annually. You know, for trivial things like car payments and college tuition.
