Sorry this is dragging the whole post off topic.
I just did a search as though I was looking for one of the early sets.
I saw the listings being mentioned, at least the 2012 I did for sure.
Again, you get what you pay for.
You can look at a mint set as being sort of like an individual coin you need for a collection or a coin book.
Do you want a good, really nice MS coin, or can you only afford something more like a AG, because of the rarity?
These early sets are similar.
Yeah you can find a set for a lower price, but look at what you're getting. Toning is bad on these, and it ain't pretty toning typically either. Looks like part of the coin, usually along the rim, was dipped in syrup or turpentine or something.
Some of these it's on all the coins. Typically the eagle gets it and some or all of the quarters.
Depending on the year, the sweet spot on price and condition does seem to be in the mid $200s. To get something really nice, all clear coins you will be over that. I remember setting up
ebay to show "most expensive first" because if I started with lowest first, I was just looking at one garbage set after another. I kept looking at the list prices, hoping to find a good deal, and I eventually ended up with sets I liked.
But yes look at the coins, not just the price tag. Zoom the heck out of the pictures and see what they look like and hope they look like that in person.
