Yes definitely mechanical damage. We see these posted with some frequency showing damage here or on the L of LIBERTY. We typically ascribe this to the coin mechanism from gumball machines.

Unable to fully evaluate since your photos are distorted by overmagnification beyond the 800x800 pixels the board recommends. Please use a size of 800x800 or so because that tends to make a sharper image, and works with more equipment which allows more members to participate.
