MajorPatW Valued Member United States 100 Posts	Posted 06/29/2023 5:11 pm I dug it out of the ground myself about 50 years ago as a kid. Trying to detemine whether or not to send to PCGS. Can I clean the dirt off the date or will that mess it up. You can make it out with a loupe. It's not in the best condition, but as a kid I was thrilled. Report this Post to the Staff

Dearborn Moderator United States 98637 Posts	Posted 07/02/2023 10:53 pm No, no toothbrush scrubbing, you can mar the surfaces. Get yourself some 100% pure Acetone from the hardware store and give it a good 24 - 48 hour soak. Make sure it is PURE acetone and NOT fingernail polish remover (that stuff has impurities in it and can ruin a coin.) Acetone evaporates quickly so be sure to cover it up for the soak. most of the organic stuff should come right off. After a soak, please report back here and let us know how it went.
