Quote: Oh my! I barely remember that episode. Well, if you ever come across a coin with a "G" mint mark, you'll know where it came from.

Unless I miss my guess, the •VNITED• STATES• MINT• photo is of the third Philadelphia mint building, which opened in 1901 and closed in 1969. Anyone care to corroborate?

Quote: (Many an eagle-eyed viewer would point out that the Mint does not make paper money--that is the purview of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing--but that would only spoil the fun!) Farbeit from us to spoil such campy fun! Quote: Well, if you ever come across a coin with a "G" mint mark, you'll know where it came from. I think you're spot on. Scroll down this link about 2/3 of the way

Apologies if this scene was noted earlier. From the 1964 movie Dr. Strangelove (Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb). Coke machine was shot open to gain access to coins needed for a pay phone call to the President of the United States. There's a 1 or 2 second clip which shows coins flying out of the machine. Couldn't find a good quality still to post, so, we have this...

I just rewatched The Twilight Zone episode 17 from the first season that aired way back in 1960. It features a slot machine that is PACKED with old silver dollars. I think most of the coins you can see in closeup are Peace dollars. I won't go into the details of the episode, but it was really interesting to see all of the coins, both in the machine and being given to Franklin Gibbs as he cashes check after check, down to his last dollar! If you're into the show, and you can find it on a streaming service, take a look! It's worth a watch!
