The rim at the date is damaged. Is there any other area that looks odd to you?

It's Post Mint Damage aka: PMD.

It looks like the eagle-eyed railroad engineer saw it sitting on the track and was ALMOST able to stop in time. Just nudged it at K:6.

Almost all odd looking coins are post mint damage. Coins spend very little time being made at the mint and then can circulate for up to a century or more while daily being battered and exposed to the environment.
