1957 D Wheat Penny Plating Separation?

Copperhead66 New Member United States 4 Posts	Posted 08/14/2023 1:04 pm Hello fellow coin hunters/collecters. Here is my thought and would like some feedback. Using my jewelers loop. I think what I have is 2 separate issues happening with this wheatie. 1. Reverse has die chips? 2. Obverse has plating flaking? Around date, along rim where Liberty is and around chin. The thing is on the reverse when I angle the coin I can see what look like space between the layers or maybe shadows. When I look from it straight down it looks like die chip. Spence Moderator United States 34441 Posts	Posted 08/14/2023 1:34 pm Certainly not plated at the mint, but who knows what indignities this coin suffered over the decades--we have seen plenty of aftermarket plated coins. When I saw the title of this thread, I was expecting to see a lamination, but I don't think that this is correct either. The flaking on the obv and extra bits on the surface of the rev both indicate some foreign substance on the coin (not a mint error).
