I actually like the companion medal for the quarter more than the dime.
If I had to choose only one, the quarter companion might win.

This is going to be an expensive year.
Indeed.

Will have to evaluate my subscriptions -- as I do every year -- and determine which ones get paused in order to afford some of the 2026 medals. . .Can't buy it all.

(As far as my subscriptions, I have it down to only what I need to keep my ASE set complete: proof W and S, congrats set, Limited Edition set, Uncirculated. Is that it?)
It'll be interesting to see what if any sets they come up with.
They haven't really had anything I can think of involving a special set since 2021 that I can think of (the Designer Set). They seem to have dried up. Just the normal, congratulations "set", Limited Edition Silver Proof, then of course the different proof and Uncirculated sets. Just the "expected" sets. So we'll see if they do anything apart from that next year. I'm just hoping there will be nothing fancy with a silver eagle along with gold that will try to break the bank.
As long as nothing crazy like that happens, I think for the Best of the Mint series, the 1oz will probably be the St Gaudens double eagle, I may just try to get that. That's the only one they didn't do in 2016. I had the 2016 Centennial coins, traded them and did buy the dime again, but that's all. So to me it feels like "been there, done that".EDIT Well yeah they didn't do the double eagle in 2016, it wasn't the centennial for that design, duh!

Walking liberty design is out. I like the medal on this one as well. Anyone want to take a guess on pricing for this set?

What do you consider the set in this case? The gold and silver? I would think they'd be sold separately?

Gilly: Like you, I hope the "Best of the Mint" silver medals can be purchased separately from the over-priced gold issues, but the USM marketing literature describes them as "sets" :

Quote:
To celebrate the Nation's Semiquincentennial (SemiQ) in 2026, the Mint will be releasing newly-designed circulating coins and five "Best of the Mint" gold coin and silver medal sets as part of this journey through history. Follow us throughout the year as we unveil exciting new designs. Let the countdown begin!

Quote:
In addition to releasing newly designed circulating coins in 2026, the U.S. Mint will issue five special Best of the Mint numismatic coin and medal sets as part of this journey through history.
These five special sets will include 24-karat 99.99% fine gold coins reissued as faithful representations of the historic designs with the original dates of issue to acknowledge each coin's place in history. The coins will also bear a special Semiquincentennial Liberty Bell privy mark with the numeral "250." Each coin will also have a 1 oz. silver companion medal, featuring new and modern designs, inspired by the 24-karat gold coins.

Coin World reported on July 18, 2025, " Bureau officials have not yet disclosed maximum authorized mintages for the Best of the Mint gold dime and silver medal set."
I've spent a significant amount of search time trying to find a credible source that indicates the Best of the Mint [BOM] offerings will be sold both individually and as sets. Just for the heck of it I posed this question to Grok: " Will the US Mint 2026 Best of the Mint gold coins and silver medals be sold separately or only in sets ? " The response:

Quote:
The US Mint's 2026 Best of the Mint series consists of five numismatic coin and medal sets issued as part of the Semiquincentennial celebration. Each release pairs a fractional 24-karat gold coin (recreating a historic U.S. coin design with its original date and a special "250" Liberty Bell privy mark) with one or more companion one-ounce silver medals featuring modern interpretations of the design.
Based on available information, including design announcements and mintage details from recent releases:

* The products are primarily offered as coin and medal sets (i.e., the gold coin bundled with the silver medal(s) as a single product).
* However, silver medals are also sold separately, as indicated by significantly higher mintages for silver medals compared to gold coins (e.g., for the Standing Liberty release, 12,000 gold coins vs. 60,000 silver medals) and separate household purchase limits and online allocations listed in some sources.
Specific sales details, such as prices and exact release dates, will be announced closer to launch in 2026, but you can monitor the official U.S. Mint Semiquincentennial page for updates.

FYI: Grok listed these websites as its sources: usmint.gov; CoinWorld.com; coinnews.net; and, coinweek.com

Over at Collector's Universe, some are speculating the Silver Medals will be released for individual sale throughout 2026 and towards year end, a special limited edition Silver Medal set will be offered. . .

If the gold coin buyer is forced in to accepting the companion medal, as a potential Liberty Walking purchaser, I'd be ok with it. That companion medal (for the Walker) I would say is my favorite out of all of them so far (which is saying a little). I'll have to see the remaining to know if I really want any of them. I think I'm getting pickier as I go along.

The current American Eagle 4 coin gold set sells for $8,107.50. . .If the Mint creates a 5 coin set (by adding another 1 oz gold coin ) that would put the price of the set in the $12.5K neighborhood !

Current Selling prices for individual US Mint Gold Proof Coins:
1 oz : $4,350
.5 oz: $2,200
.25 oz: $1,127
.10 oz: $505

I really don't think they'd do that.
I pretty firmly believe that it would be a similar situation as the Liberty Gold coin and medal, 2 separate releases. I'm even struggling with them joining the coin and medal together and selling them as a set. But again I'm sure they wouldn't make this a 5 coin gold set, they know better than that. Maybe they'd get the first struck ones and auction at Stack Bowers? Either as a set or individually, that I could see those stinkers doing.

Thanks cptbilly! I figure the mint hasn't cared lately about the price of things. I'm of the assumption they'll do the 5 coin set in some special case deal. I wouldn't put it past them to give it to an auction house and limit it to 250 of them.
