I usually have no issues recognizing them, but this is very helpful. Thank you for posting.

Well done.
I like the modern varieties because they can readily be found. We might go through dry spells by but single squeeze varieties are getting harder and harder to find.

I like the visual guide. On the "extra thickness" doubles, I always have trouble distinguishing true doubled lettering from Die Deterioration Doubling or circulation flattening. I have long wondered if the extra thickness doubles are a result of something happening on the die during the single squeeze hubbing process, or whether it is distortion on the working hub similar to a traditional distended hub double.

I do too @brand, but one thing that these photos demonstrate quite clearly is that for letters with two "arms", like the letter U and the letter Y, these ends up being different thicknesses. For sure this could be a selective hit that only flattens one side, but it is something that I look for anyways.

Thank you everyone for looking, if it helps only one, that's good enough. I had more but got lazy. I saw a couple of questions about the single squeeze doubling, so added a link in the beginning, should have from the start. I personally like Wexler's take on these guys. A good read, so check it out.

Thanks Make. This make more light on the topic. IMHO the cents, nickels or dimes are easier to spot then the quarters or halves. But I like your optical presentation. Thanks.

Thanks, Sil. Yeah, the larger denominational doubled dies do not seem to be as common and less dramatic. The quarter I posted here is a bit of an oddity.

Make cents. What happened on the die process that caused the 2015 DDO. And the 2019 DDO #001 VV. Site. They look identical. I am trying to understand the die process. Thanks Bent.

So, I put up some pics to help people understand what this particular doubled die can look like, because it's different than the old school doubling. There is a link in the beginning of my thread that explains, somewhat, but I don't think that even the big heads truly understand it. If you will read the whole thing, early on, Wexler says "God Only Knows - This class of doubling is for those doubled dies that are simply unexplained. It is for those extremely few doubled dies that defy logic and common sense. It is where the physical evidence does not support a reasonable conclusion on how the working die was hubbed to produce the secondary image." Wexler is way above my paygrade and I have a feeling that as time goes on, there will progression with this particular "doubling" and we'll know more about it. This is what we have to work with at this time and could change, as many things do. There is nothing set in stone.... Thank you for asking though, that's refreshing. Wish I had a better answer for you. Read the link that I left though and that will give you something to work with until it changes.
