This one was just posted it says it's tooled, I didn't know if that was the date that was tooled or fine scratches that are on the coin, wanted to see what you all opinions are on it. Thanks

The leaves and bust look like they've been worked on to me. Ugh.

I would put this coin in the derelict category and you do not want to spend what it would take to purchase. The coin has a questionable date, stain spots, tooled, and scratches. PASS

You are looking for a coin that you can read the date. There are no questions about the authenticity. The color and coin looks original. It can be in a details holder, but the problems should be minimal. The example will be a hard find, and it may take up to a year, and do not pay over retail. Most likely places to find the coin: Great Collections, Heritage, Stacks, ebay.

If you zoom in on the TrueView, it was tooled (more like scraped) around the periphery, probably trying to remove corrosion. I don't think they did anything to the leaves or date.

I concur, BUT our OP is buying hole fillers. Removed from the slab, this one fits the bill. Personally, I'd prefer a Gallery Mint copy to this one.

IMHO, this one's worth maybe $500 as it's certified. I sold a nicer, raw one with a full date to a dealer for $700; this, about six years ago. I cherry-picked that one in a jewelry shop.

I agree with Frog, that area has a different color.

Here is one you may want to look at. This coin is up for auction at Great Collections. I have seen a couple of these VG details sell in the $1200 range. This one probably will go higher as it is nicer than the other ones recently that sold at this grade.
