I have a proof 1976 B penny that has never been touched out of the case but it is turning purple anybody know any reason why it's doing this? New to coins my dad collected em so don't know much any help would be appreciated thank you.  *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

 It is toning. Most likely cause is where it has been stored,damp area big temp changes etc. John1

Agree with all above. I've had similar experiences with many bicentennial proof sets. Speaking only for myself, I kinda like the toning.

Normal toning process. This indicates your storage is not good enough to protect the coin.

That is a particularly difficult date to find in high grade red condition. I have all the Lincoln Cents in proof from 1950 through 2023 graded, and for 1975 and 1976 I've settled on PF67 Cameo whereas the years earlier are PF68 ultra cameo and those afterwords PF69 ultra cameo.

With everything else being already stated - I like the toning. Could fetch a premium over book value if you were to sell it.
