No, it's corroded and heavily damaged.

This coin was more than likely run over by cars in the street resulting in the granularity. I find these in the street often.

Looks more like it was "struck through" a sand storm. I agree with Chuck, something was done to uniformly damage this coins surface. I see loads of road-kill Cents and this is very different. ~ Jim

Umm, no...probably not.

More likely that it is the result of having sat submerged with something else that had serious corrosion problems, and the corrosion ate into the cent. Copper/brass alloy doesn't corrode easily on its own, but is susceptible to chemical reaction to other things corroding. For instance, a cent will not rust...but it will gain rust from something else rusting. Of course 1943 excepted.

I believe this cent 'gained' corrosion from something else it was in contact with.
