Hey Sdexcid, I'll eat a $100 bill if this turns out to be real. Are you sure you don't have a whole roll of 1933 double eagles, or maybe a $1,000 bag?

oh... I thought we were still talking about the ruble.

About the 1933, there's an extremely small chance that it's real, as in struck by the US Mint from 1933 dies in 1933. If in fact it's real, then you've already taken it too far by telling the museum. What you have is confiscatory US government property.

I agree somewhat with quick that they could not confiscate it if it was in another country. But I mean lets face it were talking the CIA (Criminal Investigation Agency) I really dont think there is going to be anyone who tells them they can not confiscate it. Who would have the power to do that. but the Debate does go on.

I find this Subject really interesting, and I really only want to wish SDEXCID all the best, I know we are all sceptics, and rightly so within reason, but I believe we should give the guy a break and congratulate him on this find, and like we say here in IRELAND, "it will all come out in the washing" I will keep an eye on the news, and I hope you have a good lawyer, and ALL THE BEST with your good fortune if it turns out to be authentic.

appreciate the postive responses. I have an appointment with a lawyer on Tuesday who said he will also get an opinion from a coin specialist. The more confirmations, the better. I imagine he is doing research on whether it is illegal to hold this coin. He advised me over the phone to tell no one about this. lol too late I told this forum and a museum. It's ok because of right now nobody knows who I am so I cant get in any trouble. Also to put it in a safety deposit box. one out of two isn't bad I guess. Oh and not to talk to the museum directly any longer. Once it is confirmed to him he will be handling things from here on in. Soooooo the fun begins.

Not really going to reply to the ignorant comments. Everything that I have wrote about this coin is what I was told by the museum and some specialists that were brought in. Some was speculative as said before. Gl being angry all your life! If you have an issue with this thread I suggest you close it and not respond with negative responses, afterall this is a coin forum....

Thanks

You know that Canadian museums can be plundered for their gold... well, from time to time. Just sayin' is all.

And I wouldn't trust any museum as far as I could throw it(?).
I know it's been mentioned, but if the 1933 is a copy before 1972(Hobby Proteection act), it wouldn't be marked. So, that's a 39 year possible production window. Why mark up a beautiful repro if you don't have to?

I have some interesting pictures of Saint Gaudens gold repros from the Franklin Mint... they are spectacular. I have seen them sold(blue case and all) with the text something like... "I don't know if these are real... no return". Usually sell for 80 bucks or so, but sometimes thousands! Be careful.

Sorry, there is not a single person in Canada qualified to definitively authenticate a 1933 Double Eagle...

If it makes you feel any better IBGolden, I wouldn't want anyone in the US authenticating my 1936 Dot cent(if I owned such a critter)

hey guys, it appears Canadian Coin News knows about the King Farouk coin....
this story here sound to good to be true.... but ONE never knows...
I much daubt that any VP of any Calgary Museum is authorized to offer that kind of money....
there are only a couple of museums, and last tome I checked, thay were all nearly broke...Museums depend much on "gifts" from the public....and why should they get in to a controversy about a US coin? No way...

lol ^^^^^ .....ok

some of these responses are hilarious

:)

Guys, I cant do anything here to confirm things for now. I for one have no idea about coins nor does my opinion matter as I am far from qualified. I know nothing at all about them. Half the words and phrases you guys use I dont even know what they mean. I am being told stuff and listening. If the board of a museum is telling me its real than hell yes I will listen and pray it is. I am sure if they put out an offer (once 100% confirmed) of $5,000,000 I am not gonna question if it's fake or not.
I can only hope that this is true. Not a single coin I have from my grandfather is fake. I just think, why would this one. Why did they suggest it was from an Israeli coin collector and that would make sense. Like I said his father lived there for like 11 years.
So who knows. I don't.

And if you decide to sell it, you better run from the American feds! We will find you!

But in any case, if in fact it's real, for the love of God do not let the US govn't take it away from you. Get a few lawyers and try to monetize it (as in pay $20 in today's money to the Treas) to make it legal.

Then... auction! The last one sold for a record $7.6 million. If you in fact have another legal specimen (there are at least 10 more illegal, already confiscated ones) then I bet the price will be much higher than $5 million.
