Theoderic, Quarter Siliqua Die Match?

Came across a rare Quarter Siliqua and while doing some research, I believe I found a die match that was sold at CNG auctions. Sometimes die matches are a good thing, but most of the times it usually spells trouble. Any thoughts? GEPIDS. Uncertain king. 454-552. AR Quarter Siliqua (16mm, 0.83 g, 6h). samoth Valued Member United States 220 Posts	Posted 05/02/2024 6:44 pm Regarding the die, the defect in front of the eye is likely diagnostic. I don't like the second one, personally. The color's off, it's way too symmetric/round, the front has porosity that doesn't match the reverse, and I question whether the flan defect at K5-6 of the obverse is part of the die. Also, the rim mark over V on the reverse appears to be a flan spur, which shouldn't exist on the second coin. It just doesn't look right to me. Note, however, that I don't specialize in these. I'd love to hear others' opinions -- especially if anyone collects this type or century. Report this Post to the Staff
