I purchased this coin from Bob Reis a while ago as a bisti of Tahmasp I of Persia (1524-1576). I can't find a similar-looking example online and can't pick out what's in the inscription. I'm kind of at a loss. Is it even Persian, or perhaps Mughal? Thanks for any help.

I'm definitely out of my league here, but I'm seeing some similarities to a few coins on zeno. Here is a link to one of the closest that I can find (Safavid Dynasty; Tahmasp I Bisti):

I think @Spence is correct. The weight, diameter, shape, general appearance, and some of the writing appears much like the coin in question, so I think the Zeno coin is quite similar, though not an exact match. Maybe one of our members will be able to read some of the coin to help firm up the ID.

Thank you, @Spence and @Seeker55. I can definitely see the reverse matches the Zeno coin and the obverse appears to have a lot of the same letters too, though I'm having a hard time reading it.

I should have mentioned that it was sold as Astarabad mint and the Zeno coin is from Iravan. Perhaps this explains some differences in the obverse inscription?

The mint name Astarabad is in the obverse cartouche, very clear. Unfortunately, the rest of the obverse, including the ruler's name, is flat. The reverse is relatively legible but it's the Shiite Kalima, common to most Iranian coins. Album (C2605) lists the weight of a bisti of Tahmasp I as 1.17g and notes that it is unusually common for a small denomination.

Thank you @Kushanshah for the help with reading the mint name. Based on the weight info and abundancy I would say Tahmasp I is a fair guess. Looks like it was correctly attributed when sold. Thanks everyone for the help.
