We get to see how the Gdansk engraver potrayed Sigismund on this 1531 groat from Gdansk (still bad hair but no "bug eyes" and less scowl):
Walking-Back-From-1600-With-Dated-Coins
Walking-Back-From-1600-With-Dated-Coins

...And another interesting abbreviation reverse, DANC3 for something like GEDANENSIS (fuller spelling seen on the same type a few years later)

That is a very nice sequence of Siggies, tdziemia!

I think that '3' is just a 'Z' written in a way common at the time. "Danczik" and similar seem to have been ways to spell the city's name, and although not in line with the rest of the inscription being in Latin, I think DANCZ is a short form of the local name.

For today I have this Pfennig from the Austrian State of Steiermark:

Walking-Back-From-1600-With-Dated-Coins
Walking-Back-From-1600-With-Dated-Coins
"If you climb a good tree, you get a push."

That probably makes more sense than it abbreviating a couple of syllables.
Maybe it was just an engraver's preference. When the design changed in the late 1530s, so did the spelling as seen here:

Nice Riga coin. I like their emblem (is that a lion's face inside the city gate?)

For 1530 another groat of Sigismund struck at the Torun mint:
Walking-Back-From-1600-With-Dated-Coins
Walking-Back-From-1600-With-Dated-Coins
