I've got an Austrian pfennig from Steiermark for today.

When the Krakow mint began issuing this type in 1526, it was the largest silver type that had been struck in Poland for over 150 years. Nice, evenly struck examples are pretty much non-existent, so I guess there was some loss of experience in how to make larger coins.

Nice examples, you two. @Spence, the uniface. Is it a Salzburg?, and the denomination? (I'm keeping my own sheet on all of these)

Yes @ttk, sorry for not including more info. With that hat design element, it is Salzburg. The denomination is 2 Pfennige. The year 1524 AD marks the first year of my collection for which I don;t have an AD-dated coin, Rather I have this Ottoman Akce. The AH date is 926, which roughly corresponds to 1524. I'll leave it to @j1m to weigh in on whether we need a different coin to move this thread back.

Quote: I'll leave it to @j1m to weigh in on whether we need a different coin to move this thread back. It's an excellent coin... except that, according to all the converters I could find, 926 AH corresponds to 1520 AD, not 1524, so it would be appropriate to post on September 21st (Saturday). OTOH by the rules of this specific thread it would move back regardless of if there's a coin for the day. I'm sure someone here has a coin from 1524, but if no, there'd just be a gap to be (maybe) filled in later. I believe my own next entry is 1522.

This 1524 schilling of Gdansk is the earliest dated coin struck there: (I think we're probably still a few months from a gap with a dated coin)

Quote: I think we're probably still a few months from a gap with a dated coin Almost exactly two months by my estimate - maybe longer, depending on what 1460s coverage looks like (or maybe shorter, if some of the less well-represented dates don't happen to get posted). The original HFBCWG threads had a lot of datable-but-undated coins filling up the 1460s (and 1450s and 1440s and 1430s...), so there'll probably be a lot more gaps starting to pile up as we go through those periods in November and December.
