Two weeks ago, I won an ebay auction for a 1938-D Buffalo nickel. It wasn't an expensive coin. I paid about $17.00 for it, including shipping. I paid right away.

Two days later, I suddenly received a full refund and notification that the sale was cancelled.

I sent a message to the seller asking what was going on, telling him I would like to receive the coin. However, the seller never responded.

So, I am left pondering possible feedback since it looks like I can still do that. I could just drop it and not leave any. I don't think this merits negative feedback since I did get a full refund. However, the fact that the seller didn't respond to my inquiry leads me to consider neutral feedback stating the facts and my displeasure in not receiving a reply.

Thoughts on what to do? Thanks.

I personally don't see the point of leaving negative feedback. Coin collecting is a small world, it seems, and that seller might have a cool coin in the future. The only exception is if the seller did something blatantly negative, like a bait and switch, tampering with photos, that sort of thing.

Maybe they couldn't find the coin or it had sold already. For something that small I wouldn't make a big deal out of it, they refunded right away.

I agree with leaving neutral feedback with an explanation.Saying nothing is like it did not happen, but it did.

I had something very similar happed last month. Paid immediately, and within 90 minutes the sale was cancelled and I received an immediate refund. I was a little disappointed, but let it go.

As a seller, I've had to refund a sale - or 3 - for an item I no longer had but forgot to take down the listing. It happens, but the buyer deserves an explanation.

On the other hand, as a buyer, as long as I got all my money back I'd forget about it and avoid that seller in the future. As Elsa would say... let it go.

I had it happen to me, but the seller messaged me immediately and before the refund hit my account. "Dad sold this in the shop and forget to tell me." Stuff like this happens. I left a positive feedback, and bought from that seller again.

However, no contact or explanation from the seller? That is begging for a neutral or nothing at all.

If it was a true auction, it could have also been seller's remorse - i.e, I got a lot less than I was expecting, I messed up the shipping cost and it was higher than I thought, etc.

I'd probably just let it go since you are not really out any money. I reserve negatives for people who truly somethinged me off; I think I've only left one in probably close to 1000 transactions over the years. I do think it's bad that the seller never gave you a reason so maybe that warrants a neutral but otherwise I'd probably just move on.

Thanks for the responses. The seller has 100% positive feedback with over 8200 items sold.

I guess I'll write this down as an honest mistake and let it go . . . although it is frustrating.

Agree, leave it alone. Things usually go south on something like this.
