Its going to be a certified coin. I'm not taking a chance with this one. My budget was $750 but the AG03s hard have anything and the Gs are not a big improvement either. At least not the ones I came across.

Quote: Its going to be a certified coin Do NOT buy this coin raw. Buy a slabbed coin in a PCGS,NGC,or ANACS slab. I have a PCGS AG03 16-D with a bold MM and date. Bought for $600 a few years back. Great investment coin as you can see

Actually the 21 and 21-D are not that bad of coins compared to the 16-D I have the full set minus the 16-D. I got my 21 for $30 in G. And I found my 21-D in a bunch of silver dimes at work. (I work at a coin store). My boss said that since I found it and he was going to sell it at silver anyways that I could buy it for just the silver price. $.90 for a 1921-D is a definite win. Even if its only in G condition.

Don't have one, but I have been actively looking this year to buy it. I recently did a best offer on one on ebay, the seller declined my offer and then sold it to someone else for about $2 LOWER. I still don't understand that one... Two other times I've been runner-up on auctions. Hopefully by the end of this year, if the price doesn't climb any more...

Same here mycrob, actively looking but haven't found the "right one" yet. I'm hoping I'll be successful at the CoinFest this year.

Shatsi - I was able to pick this one up (I think it was a couple years ago) for, in the neighborhood of, $500. I know some folks advise to buy the keys first, but my coin collecting habits seem to go in exactly the opposite direction - I'm thinking the majority of us who collect just for the fun of collecting probably do the same - kinda like ending with a big finish! I seldom buy slabbed coins, but in some instances (like this one) I think it's justified - gives you a sense of security. Ralph

My first set was the Franklins which are not expensive and Mercs are my 2nd set trying to complete. But I had accumulated the funds for a 16-D so even though I'm no where near finishing the set I'm ready to purchase it but don't want to rush it.

I have the set complete other than 21 D and 16 D, but some of them are pretty low grades. I need to work on upgrade those and finishing the walkers.
I love them both and having AG-G in holes looks bad.

Earlier in this thread I mentioned that I thought I had one of these but was content to live in my ignorance thinking (hoping, praying) that what I had was a true 1916-D and not a fake. I finally decided to post some photos so, go ahead, burst my bubble if it requires bursting. Is it or ain't it?

Steev, IMO, it has all the proper diagnostics of a genuine 16-D including the half-moon little blob "D" associated with a coin in the AG grade level. Congrats!
