now in the Dansco album! I think the 1921 merc is probably the first one on my upgrade list as it barely cuts AG-3 in my opinion.

Nice work Johnny!! VERY impressive!

I think your 1916D is undergraded too! Nice details!

Wow very nice set! The thing I like about Mercs is that the coins look mostly well matched no matter how different they are. So are you going to keep the 16-D in the slab?

Thanks guys! Yeah, I am quite pleased with the 16-d. I think it is technically an AG-3, but it is very strong for the grade. What I really like about it is how much "relief" is retained even with the wear. The devices and letters have depth when most AG-3s seem rather flat. The date and mintmark are very bold. This is one I will be leaving in the slab and will probably velcro it to the inside front cover like I do with some of my other slabs.

Very nice set you have, these are one of my favorites. There is just something about the design that catches my eye. Being a little short on patience I would also be interested in know how long it took to put together and also generally how you accumulated them i.e. one at a time or in bunches, ebay dealers or all of the above.
Rest in Peace

Actually I bought a basically complete set(only missing the 16-d) in a whitman album for $200 about a month or two ago. Then I purchased another partial set in a Dansco for $55 and the 16-d for $600 last week and combined the albums putting only the best ones in the Dansco. So the 16-d in AG-3 essentially cost me 3 times as much as all of the other coins combined...lol. Basically it is a cheap set excluding the 16-d.

Probably not. I plan to velcro it to the inside front cover, and fill the hole with a blank. This is the method I use when I want to include a slabbed coin with it's corresponding album; so you still see them together in a set.

If you want my suggestion, crack out that 16D and put it where it belongs. What I do is add a sheet of paper in the front of my Albums for miscellaneous info. If any coin came from a slab, that little sticker from the slab is place on that page but the coin goes where it belongs, in the Album.
Here is something interesting. If you turn the pages you should see that as a general rule many, many of the reverses are tilted all over the place. The Mint marks too are usually either tilted or all over the area too. For some reason Mercury dimes are the worst coins for those rotated revereses.

Looks like Mercury dime Fever has hit the forum! Most of the most recent posts are on this series. (Just an observation)

Agree with Carl, That empty hole would drive me nuts. Just me but if the 16 D was in high grade I could see leaving entombed, but at AG I would put it in the album, like I said that's just me.
Wish I had a complete Mercury set ! !
