As the adjournment of the 118th Congress draws near, I thought it a good time to have a quick look at the commemorative coins bills that were introduced:

1. 2025 Working Dog: Last action: Passed the House, Sent to Senate ((299 House Co-Sponsors, 48 Senate Co-Sponsors)
2. 2025 US Marine Corps 250th anniversary: Signed into law on July 26, 2023 (301 House Co-Sponsors, 74 Senate Co-Sponsors)
3. 2026 Prime Minister Golda Meir: Introduced/Referred (221 House Co-Sponsors, 34 Senate Co-Sponsors)
4. 2023/2024 Sultana Steamboat Disaster: Introduced/Referred (2024 Bill: 58 House Co-Sponsors, 1 Senate Co-Sponsor)
5. 2025 US Foreign Service: Introduced/Referred (121 House Co-Sponsors, 43 Senate Co-Sponsors)
6. 2028 LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games: Introduced/Referred (94 House Co-Sponsors, 17 Senate Co-Sponsors)
7. 2029 Arnold Daniel Palmer: Introduced/Referred (38 House Co-Sponsors, no Senate bill)
8. 2023 NASCAR 75th Anniversary: Introduced/Referred (2 House Co-Sponsors, no Senate bill)
9. 2023 Fleet Reserve Association: Introduced/Referred (5 House Co-Sponsors, no Senate bill)
10. 2026 Erie Canal Bicentennial: Introduced/Referred (12 House Co-Sponsors, no Senate bill)
11. 2029 Selena Quintanilla: Introduced/Referred (3 House Co-Sponsors, no Senate bill)
12. 2026 FIFA World Cup: Introduced/Referred (292 House Co-Sponsors, 20 Senate Co-Sponsors)
13. 2026 Paul Laurence Dunbar: Introduced/Referred (0 House Co-Sponsors, no Senate bill)
14. 2027 Roberto Clemente: Introduced/Referred (200 House Co-Sponsors, no Senate bill)
15. 2025 Rosie the Riveter: Introduced/Referred (195 House Co-Sponsors, no Senate bill)

Note 1: Bills with a status of "Introduced/Referred" are bills that have not been reported out of Committee.

Note 2: Co-Sponsor counts are as of the writing of this post, but are subject to change.

So, just 1 of 15 commemorative coin bills introduced in the 118th Congress have thus far received a Presidential signature and passage into law! (I'm sensing good potential for future What If? stories! )

Whichever of these bills is not passed between now and the 118th Congress' adjournment (January 2025) will die for lack of action and need to be re-introduced in the 119th Congress for it to have a chance of progressing. Some have so few co-sponsors that their prospects appear dim.

At this pace you are indeed going to have a wide open opportunity for future What If? threads.

Great compilation of where these bills stand so far. Thanks of sharing.

Considering that LA was award the 2028 Olympics, it seems to me that striking commemorative issues for that occasion is a given.

I agree. From my original post on the coin proposal:

"Though it currently is listed with a low probability of passing, I predict that either this bill or a similar bill introduced in a following Congress will be passed and signed into law by the President. History is on its side!"

I'd be interested in many of these... Marine Corps, Working Dog, Olympics, Palmer, Erie Canal, Clemente and Rosie.

Still would like to see the 100th anniversary of the Oregon trail commemorative half dollar. Make it in proof and regular finishes and as a dollar, such a beautiful design.
