Quote: Meanwhile here in Texas we received ten inches of snow I wasn't aware that Texas got snow, I thought it was too far south. Our news bulletins have been mainly about the fires. I know almost nothing about the USA. I visited a cousin in Louisville (KY) once. I noted that most houses are made of wood and that the forests have no fire-breaks. Is that the situation in California? Our foresters recommend fire-breaks of 100 yards. They would prefer 200 yards, though; now I wonder if that would be enough if we had a fire and a 100 mph wind. We have plenty of water, too.

Quote: I wasn't aware that Texas got snow, I thought it was too far south. I live in North/Northeast Texas and we get snow maybe one or two times a year at most. We actually didn't get any snow on the ground here during this last go-round. Ten inches is more than I've ever seen in Texas, but the panhandle is a different story from where I have lived. Texas weather is just a mess in general, so you learn to expect the unexpected! Some edits to the above pic: tornado season extends into at least December and freezes are possible through March.

Cross me off the list, Santa rggoodie! My Canadian Santa passed by Central Texas today and dropped of a fantastic gift! I received: 1980 1 cent Canada struck on a double-clipped planchet (Those darn elves!!) 1971 $1 British Columbia Silver $1 graded SP66 by PCGS 1965 giant Canadian 1 cent medallion "The Big Penny" 1965 giant U.S. 1 cent medallion A thoughtful letter from Santa It's hard to see from my photos but the $1 BC piece has a lovely gold tone to it. I had no idea those oversized medallions existed...they're going to be some fun conversation pieces. I'll have to do some more research on Sudbury numismatic park. And double-clipped planchet is almost certainly the first error coin I've owned! Thanks for the very cool gifts, Santa!
