1957 D Penny - Why Does It Look Like It's Been Melted

I found this 1957 D Wheat penny that looks like it's been melted. The top of the rim is melted and the letters look like they dropped from melting but would that mean it's a mint error or did this happen after it was out on the streets, lol
So, the L in Liberty in non existent and you can see where the C on cent in the back started to melt too. Was this done while making the coin or after it was sent out!? Please lmk if you need better or particular area of the coin. Thank you in advice for taking your time to teach me, I really appreciate it. Have a wonderful day!

That cent was picked up from a parking lot or side of the road and then put back into circulation for many years causing the sharp damage to wear down...I say spend it or put in your junk copper pile.

Post-strike damage, with much of it 'softened' in appearance through circulation wear.

In the future, please try to post a full coin image of both sides, not just the portions.

But this coin was heavily damaged, then through circulation, the marks got worn down.
